Back in 1989, Toyoda Automatic Loom Works entered into a collaborative agreement with Sulzer Rüti for the development and manufacture of a new air jet weaving machine type. Series production of the result of this collaboration – the JAT600 on TICO’s markets and the L5200 for those tended to by Sulzer Rüti began in 1992. Over the next decade the machines were improved in terms of performance, wider application range, reduction in running and maintenance costs and higher automation, with subsequent models being the JAT610, L5300 and JAT710/L5400.
In February 2004 however, TICO had to terminate the longstanding agreement with Sulzer Rüti, leading to the formation in June 2004 of Toyota Textile Machinery Europe AG (TTME) for looking after its customers and building new business in Europe, Turkey, Iran, Middle East, Africa, Central/South America and Canada. At the same time, a second company, Toyota Máquinas Têxteis do Brasil Ltda, as part of TTME’s organisation has been set up in São Paulo, Brazil.
